The game is simple, the Pacers are just trying to find scorers and playmakers to put around Paul George. They tried last offseason, but the experiments failed and they need to start again during this free agency period.

After moving from Cleveland to Oklahoma City to Miami, Waiters probably had his best season yet. During his younger days, he was known as a ball-centric shooting guard, who wasn’t very efficient. He’s slowly improved his game and alongside Goran Dragic, the true potential of his game was seen this past season.

Under Spoelstra, Waiters averaged 15.8 points, which was a career-best, on 42 percent shooting from the field and 39 percent from 3-point range. The shooting efficiency needs to hold for Waiters to have continued success in the NBA, but he’s on the right track.

The Miami Heat guard has also shown a tendency to hit clutch shot after clutch shot, especially in games against the Warriors and Cavaliers. After he went down with an injury late in the season, the Heat weren’t able to recover, eventually falling out of a playoff spot.

This would be a solid addition for George, as it would give him an additional scoring threat on the floor next to him. Waiters won’t space the floor, but he can definitely create for himself. Waiters would be an upgrade over C.J. Miles — who’s likely to walk in free agency.
