NBA Free Agency 2017: 5 offseason targets for the Los Angeles Clippers
4. Paul Millsap, PF, Atlanta Hawks
Since Chris Paul has skipped out of town, there’s a strong chance that Blake Griffin looks at the Los Angeles Clippers and decides to part ways. If Griffin decides to take his talents elsewhere, what options would the Los Angeles Clippers have? They probably need to find more shooting with their next power forward and Paul Millsap fits the mold.
Although the Clippers would probably need to offer a max contract to Millsap, he would be worth it. This past season with the Hawks, Millsap had his best season yet, at 31 years old. He averaged 18.1 points and 7.7 rebounds on 34 minutes per game.
The big difference between Millsap and Griffin is their availability. Although Millsap missed 12 games this past season, he’s consistently played 70 or more games, something the Clippers’ forward cannot claim.
Millsap would bring a veteran, physical presence on the inside, while also giving them a jump shooter from the outside. It could be a lethal pairing with DeAndre Jordan for the next few years, while the Clippers can build through the draft.
The Hawks’ forward would be a great option if Griffin were to skip out of town via free agency.
