Los Angeles Clippers: Blake Griffin

After trading Chris Paul to the Rockets, the Los Angeles Clippers should have one thing on their minds: retaining Blake Griffin. In fairness, that likely would have been a chief concern for the Clippers regardless of what happened with the point guard. However, now the team is in risk of going back to square one if they were to lose their All-Star caliber power forward as well. According to Sam Amico of Fox Sports Ohio and AmicoHoops.net, the Clippers are quite aware of this and re-signing Griffin is their top priority:

However, it’s not exactly hard to surmise that Griffin will be heavily pursued around the league. Teams like the Phoenix Suns are already posturing to make a run at the uber-talented big man and they aren’t alone in the slightest. Thus, the Clippers will have to not only make a strong ploy to Griffin from a financial perspective, but also in terms of the future on the floor. Will the package that they got in return for Paul be enticing enough for the Clippers to lure Griffin back, or do they have other moves to make before that?

Frankly, it’s impossible to know if that’s the case or not at this point. However, when they resorted to drastic measures a couple of years ago to re-sign DeAndre Jordan, they did so with the intention of keeping a strong core together. Losing Griffin would cause that plan to fall by the wayside. Jordan isn’t a No. 1 guy and, for a franchise that’s worked so diligently to pull themselves out of the league’s basement, they’d be back there sooner rather than later if they lost Griffin.
