NBA Free Agency 2017: One signing every team should make
Phoenix Suns: Thabo Sefolosha
When you look at what the Phoenix Suns have in terms of their young core that they want to build with for the future, there are a ton of offensive-minded guards that they have at their disposal. Devin Booker is obviously at the forefront of that as he’s a superstar in the making, it would seem. Meanwhile, the likes of Brandon Knight (though his future in Phoenix seems in flux) and Tyler Ulis are also more offensive players than contributors on the other end of the floor.
For these players and the Suns to start turning the corner, they need to add quality veterans and defense to their roster. Though he may not be the lockdown player that he once was, Thabo Sefolosha would afford them a versatile option in that regard. The former Thunder wing who most recently played for the Hawks would bring a versatile defender on the perimeter to the Suns, which would in turn allow them to further develop their young perimeter players and enjoy a bit more success.
It’s quite clear that the Suns are on the verge of climbing out of the league’s cellar, and the recent addition of No. 4 pick Josh Jackson only furthers that. While Jackson comes into his own as a pro, however, a player like Sefolosha could help to move things along faster than they otherwise would. He’s far from spectacular as he nears his mid-30s, but he’s the right player for the situation in Phoenix currently.
