Charlotte Hornets: Shaun Livingston

To date, the Charlotte Hornets have had a highly productive and ultimately flashy offseason. Just prior to the draft, they made waves by trading for veteran center and resident castoff (at this point in his career, at least) Dwight Howard. They then followed that up in the draft by being gifted Malik Monk with the 11th pick. Both additions addressed huge needs for the Hornets heading into the 2017-18 season.

Now the Hornets can divert their attention in free agency to other needs, one of the bigger of which is depth at point guard. Between Ramon Sessions and a variety of other uninspiring options, the Hornets need a ball-handler to alleviate some of the duties off of Kemba Walker moving forward if they want to get back to the postseason. That makes a player like Shaun Livingston highly intriguing as he would both provide that and the versatility to throw different looks at opponents given how his style contrasts with Walker.

While Walker is largely a score-first player, Livingston is not. Though he’s capable while attacking in the lane, he’s more of a facilitator and all-around player than the starter in Charlotte. Still armed with a bit of cap room, the Hornets could look to lure him away from the Warriors in free agency and fill a role that they need filled to get back into the postseason. Livingston would be a great fit for this new look Hornets team and Rich Cho and company would be wise to make it happen.
