3. Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers, finally, may be ready to turn the corner from years of openly tanking toward playoff contention in the Eastern Conference. The health of Joe Embiid and Ben Simmons will go a long way toward determining that next season, but Philadelphia can supplement things via free agency if they choose to.

The 76ers are among several rumored teams that may have interest in Porter. A possible contract extension beyond next season for Robert Covington may have some effect on that, but there’s room for both in terms of role and positional fit.

Porter was the clear third fiddle for the Wizards this past season, and he would theoretically be no better than that behind Embiid, Simmons and No.1 pick Markelle Fultz with the 76ers. If there’s comfort in that role for him, and it can stay that way with a bigger paycheck, Porter may like to land in Philadelphia as a relative veteran on a young, rising team.

The 76ers could use perimeter shooting and a talent upgrade on the wings. Porter fits both, if they’re willing to enter the fray with a significant offer sheet.
