16. Mike Fisher

Mike Fisher is one of the most intriguing centers on the market. It remains to be seen precisely what his future entails. Will he remain with the Nashville Predators as their captain? Could he depart for more money? Is retirement a possibility? But if Fisher decides to stick around, contenders should definitely be interested in him.

Even at the age of 37, he’s still producing at a fairly impressive rate. Fisher had 42 points last season, his first 40 point season since the 2013-14 season. He’s one of the top penalty killers around, averaging almost two minutes a night last season.

Fisher will likely be seeking a one-year or two-year deal. At this stage in his career, three years is probably asking a bit too much. But free agency has the tendency to drive teams to do ludicrous things.

Best fits: Obviously, the Predators will want to keep their captain. Fisher seems happy in Nashville and there’s no reason to think he’ll be quick to leave. But if he is, the Montreal Canadiens could sure use a center. Fisher could make a return to the Ottawa Senators, his first home in the NHL. He’s under no pressure to rush his decisions about his future, so this could drag on a while.
