WWE Great Balls of Fire 2017 review: What we learned, takeaways, future projections

WWE Intercontinental Championship Match
The Miz (c) vs. Dean Ambrose
What we learned: We learned here that both of these guys badly need new opponents.
In what was easily the least entertaining match of the evening, The Miz defeated Dean Ambrose to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Does anybody really care about this program anymore? Thankfully, this should be the last match of the program that’s taken up time on two brands and we can all finally move on. Going on after the solid Bliss vs. Banks match didn’t help this one, either.
Honestly, this was just a boring match. There was no real fire to it and they just looked like they were going through the motions out there instead of trying to live up to the rest of the pay-per-view. You knew there would be interference and we got that, of course. Geez, Bo and Axel just can’t be happy with their place in WWE right now, outside of the paycheck anyway. Maryse, who is all of a sudden back on good terms with her husband, was fantastic as usual but that was the only real bright spot here.
What’s next: The interference from Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel actually does have me frightened that this thing isn’t over. Ambrose certainly won’t be happy with getting screwed out of the title again, but please, for the the love of everything, just let it go. Perhaps he can go and recruit Seth Rollins and they can take a run at Sheamus and Cesaro. That’s actually not a bad idea and would give a spark to the tag division. As for The Miz, there’s a number of new challengers he could battle for the Intercontinental Championship. With the main-event scene already set for a while, there’s plenty of options for the A-lister.
