The New York Knicks might be closing in on a new general manager, hiring Scott Perry, who was the VP of Basketball Operations with the Sacramento Kings.

It looks like the Knicks are closing a chapter and starting a new one with General Manager Scott Perry. It took a potential Kristaps Porzingis trade and Carmelo Anthony buyout to send Phil Jackson packing and out of his office at the Madison Square Garden.

Owner James Dolan stepped in at the eleventh hour and made sure that Jackson wouldn’t further set the team back and fired Jackson. The Knicks have been trying to find their next general manager for a while now, including serious talks with ex-Cavaliers’ GM David Griffin.

Those talks reportedly broke off after the Knicks and Griffin couldn’t agree on his role with the team. There were also issues regarding Griffin’s staff that caused some tension during the interview process. Dolan probably didn’t want to pay Griffin a hefty salary either. The next name that was tied to the Knicks is ex-Sacramento Kings’ Vice President of Basketball Operations, Scott Perry.

Per CSN Chicago’s Vincent Goodwill, the Knicks have come to an agreement with Perry.

Perry, 53, started as a front office executive for the Detroit Pistons in 2000 under Joe Dumars. He was part of a front office that led the Pistons to championships and lots of deep playoff runs. Perry then served as an assistant general manager with the SuperSonics. He moved onto Orlando and then Sacramento. Everywhere he went, it seemed that Perry dealt with a lot of success and hopefully that shifts to New York.

The Knicks have a really good, young roster, with Porzingis and Frank Ntilikina in the fold. They’ll likely ship Carmelo out of town and start fresh. Let’s see if Perry can move forward with this role and have more success than his predecessor.
