Canada vs. Honduras live stream: Watch Gold Cup online
By Adam Stocker
Canada face Honduras at Toyota Stadium on Friday, July 14. Here’s all the info you need to watch.
Canada and Honduras enter the last group stage game both looking to advance to the Gold Cup quarterfinals. With a win, Canada could win the group and will play in the first quarterfinal game in Philadelphia. Honduras would be eliminated with a loss and likely need a win to advance.
Honduras opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to Costa Rica. In their second game, Honduras drew with French Guiana. However, that game is currently under investigation by CONCACAF after French Guiana played Florent Malouda. Malouda made 80 appearances for France which should deem him ineligible. French Guiana are not a FIFA nation, and so it was thought Malouda could play in the CONCACAF competition, but the Gold Cup follows FIFA’s eligibility guidelines, meaning Malouda can’t play. If Honduras are awarded the win and three points by CONCACAF, they could finish atop the group with a win.
With four points from their first two games, Canada will likely advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2009. After gaining his Canadian citizenship in June, Alphonso Davies entered the tournament as the Canadian player to watch. The 16-year-old Vancouver Whitecaps player was viewed as reason for optimism for Canada, who have dropped in the FIFA rankings to 100 and not qualified for the World Cup since 1982. Davies has exceeded expectations scoring three goals in the first two games.
