2. New Orleans Saints

During Super Bowl week, Manziel and Saints head coach Sean Payton reportedly discussed a return to football. But that was later dismissed as any sign of interest from the team, and perhaps Payton only advised Manziel on what he needed to do to get another chance in the NFL.

Drew Brees is obviously firmly in place as the Saints’ starting quarterback until further notice. But he is entering the final year of his contract, with no immediate signs an extension is coming. It’s highly unlikely he actually hits free agency next spring, at 39 years old by then, but it can’t be ruled out and he could join Payton elsewhere if the coach jumps ship.

A situation where he can work under and learn from an experienced, established signal caller would be ideal for Manziel if he gets a second chance in the NFL. The Saints can offer that on a virtually unrivaled level with Brees, and Payton’s assertion about always being in the “quarterback business” back in February has only yielded Chase Daniel and Ryan Nassib this offseason. Sometimes where there’s a little smoke there’s eventually a fire, and it’s an easy trail from Manziel to New Orleans.
