One big question for every NBA team
Did the Warriors increase the gap between themselves and their challengers?
This question is a testament to the ridiculous talent level of this team. Even after the crazy moves we’ve seen so far this offseason, the Warriors might have actually distanced themselves even further from the pack.
Of course, Golden State has only improved on the fringes, but that matters. Just ask the Cavaliers, who had to guard Kevin Durant with Richard Jefferson for extended minutes in the Finals. The Warriors added forward Omri Casspi at the minimum, which is a fantastic signing. Casspi is a guy that can really stretch the floor and can soak up minutes as a small ball four. He fits Golden State’s play style very well. The acquisition of Nick Young at the Mini MLE was a reasonable move as well.
Although the Rockets and Thunder got substantially better in the offseason, neither is in the ballpark of the Warriors right now. The Rockets might have a few moves to make as the year progresses, but they are still an unknown. Meanwhile the Cavaliers and Spurs, the Warriors’ biggest competitors, are bringing back the same squads. Perhaps the Warriors aren’t light years ahead of the these few teams, but right now they are in great position to pull off a repeat.
