7. Tommy Fleetwood (+2200)

These are the best odds that you’re going to see among these 10 dark horses to win the 2017 British Open. However, it’s not a mistake that a player like Tommy Fleetwood who, for all intents and purposes, doesn’t have the name-brand that many players around him in terms of odds do has such good odds heading into Royal Birkdale. Simply, this is basically a home-court advantage for Fleetwood.

Fleetwood isn’t just English — many of the golfers in the field this week are. He’s legitimately from Southport and is more familiar with Royal Birkdale than what you’d have to assume in 99 percent of the field. Though that doesn’t necessarily mean everything, it’s something that works in the favor of someone who’s played well this year. And Fleetwood has undoubtedly done just that in 2017.

The last time that we saw Fleetwood in a PGA Tour event, he finished fourth after a really strong overall performance. While that’s overall an outlier in terms of his career performance in majors, it’s indicative of the year that he’s been having. He’s found something and has simply been playing solid overall, showing prowess from the tee box to the green. With that level of confidence and playing at his “home” course, it’s hard to not think he’s a dark horse in terms of name.
