DraftKings fantasy golf picks: British Open 2017
$10,000+
Dustin Johnson ($12,000)
After the first part of 2017 was historically great for the World No. 1, Dustin Johnson has only played two tournaments since the start of June. He’s missed the cut in both outings, including the U.S. Open. However, the rest could serve him well coming into the British Open, where he has a strong history with three top-10s in his career in the third major.
Jordan Spieth ($11,600)
Jordan Spieth won the last time that he was on the course at the Travelers Championship. His putting at Royal Birkdale will no doubt be a huge advantage if he can find his form with his best club. Bigger for him, though, will be his driving. That’s been erratic in his bad showings this year, and the conditions in England demand accuracy.
Jon Rahm ($11,400)
We haven’t seen Jon Rahm stateside since the U.S. Open, which he missed the cut at and wore his frustration quite visibly. In Europe, however, he finished tied for 10th at the HNA Open de France and then won the Irish Open two weeks ago. If he can keep his composure, he has the all-around game to continue what’s been a magnificent 2017 season overall.
Rory McIlroy ($11,000)
The winner at The Open Championship in 2014, this has been an odd year for Rory McIlroy. Between dealing with a back injury and overall inconsistent play, the Northern Irish star just hasn’t been himself overall. Yet, he’s had rounds this year where he’s looked like the stud we know. He’s a risk at this price on DraftKings, but he’s a favorite to win if he’s in form.
Sergio Garcia ($10,600)
Brimming with confidence this season and playing better than most on the PGA Tour, you have to like Sergio Garcia. He’s made 17-straight cuts and has finished tied for sixth or better in his last three British Open outings. Garcia should be considered a favorite and a strong play in DraftKings fantasy golf.
Justin Rose ($10,300)
It’s been a sneakily solid year for Justin Rose, including tying for second at The Masters. What’s more, he’s had success at Royal Birkdale very early in his career, tying for fourth as an amateur way back in 1998. If he can stay focused, he’s a strong play.
