11. Dan Straily to the Mariners

Teams in the market for mid-tier starting pitchers have relatively few options this year. The available pitchers fall off heavily after Sonny Gray, Gerrit Cole, Julio Teheran and Johnny Cueto. Dan Straily is having a very solid year for the Miami Marlins, and is the best of the mid-rotation arms who could be dealt. The right-hander is pitching in the number-one slot for the Marlins, but would slide in around number three for a contender.

Straily is not a household name by any stretch of the imagination, but he has been very good over the past two years after finally establishing himself as a big leaguer and shaking off years of injuries. He is 21-12 with a 3.60 ERA in 50 starts and nearly 300 innings with solid walk and strikeout numbers.

The Seattle Mariners have been the hottest team in the American League out of the gate to start the second half, and have pushed themselves to the verge of the second wild card. It is still a very crowded race, but the Mariners have the best offense of all the teams attempting to catch the Yankees.

Pitching has been the Mariners downfall all season, and Jerry Dipoto has to make a move to upgrade his rotation. The Mariners are built to win now and have not been to the playoffs since 2001. A top three of James Paxton, Felix Hernandez and Straily might be good enough to squeeze the Mariners into the second wild card.
