Minnesota Twins 48-46

Last week: 3-3
Last rank: 12

The Bartolo Colon Era in Minnesota may prove to be exceptionally short. In his Twins debut, Colon gave up four runs in four innings on eight hits. The 44-year-old is reportedly considering retirement after his latest shelling. Not sure what the Twins or Colon expected, but it’s definitely time to stick a fork in Big Sexy.

No one in the American League seems to want to step up and knock the Twins out of the playoff picture. Giving starts to Colon is a good indication that Minnesota has some real problems in their starting rotation. Ride Jose Berrios and Ervin Santana and hope for the best from the rest of the rotation. Stranger things have happened.

Chicago Cubs 49-45

Hello everyone. Do you remember us? We’re the Chicago Cubs, the defending World Series champions, and we’re actually very good at baseball. It just took us a long time to get things in gear this year.

Kris Bryant and Anthony Rizzo are beginning to heat up and will take this offense to the Promised Land. Ian Happ, Willson Contreras and Albert Almora have not looked like rookies, while Kyle Schwarber benefited from his brief trip to Triple-A. Theo Epstein will have to decide now whether or not he’s done dealing. An elite closer like Zach Britton would look awfully good in the bullpen working with Wade Davis and Carl Edwards.
