Both the AL East and AL Central races are tight, with multiple teams within shouting distance of first place, but the AL West has long been decided. There’s still two full months to play, but with a 17-game lead, the Houston Astros can clear way for a division championship banner at Minute Main Park.
The Astros offense has long been the best in the majors, and leads the big leagues with 581 runs scored. Jose Altuve tied for the MLB lead with 13 hits over the course of last week, and was one of 10 Houston hitters to homer.
On the mound, Lance McCullers struggled in two starts, but Mike Fiers and Brad Peacock each tossed a gem to pick up the slack. With Dallas Keuchel returning from the DL soon, and the potential to make a splash at the trade deadline, the Astros should need only minor fine-tuning before the postseason.
