The most interesting division race in the National League got even more interesting after the Cubs capitalized on a rough stretch for the Brewers. Milwaukee had a 5.5-game division lead eight days ago, but seven losses in eight games mixed with Chicago’s sizzling second half start, and the lead is gone.
Willson Contreras led the Cubs with three home runs and seven RBI last week, and Chicago also got a boost from Javier Baez, who led the club with eight hits and six runs scored. Led by Jon Lester, the starting rotation also played a huge role in eliminating the gap and helping the Cubs pull even with Milwaukee in the standings.
