5 worst landing spots for Kyrie Irving
4. Sacramento Kings
The Kings would likely mortgage the future to get a shot at a superstar like Kyrie Irving. They haven’t sniffed the playoffs in over a decade and haven’t really had a star at the caliber of Irving.
Led by Vlade Divac and Vivek Ranadive, the Kings now have a young core based around De’Aaron Fox, Buddy Hield, Willie-Cauley Stein and Skal Labissiere. Imagine if the Kings had to give up Fox and a big man in exchange for Irving.
That would put Irving and Hield as their starting backcourt. Here’s the problem with that: neither Hield or Irving are premier defenders. So what happens when they play San Antonio, Houston or Golden State? Even if the Kings’ backcourt scores 80 points, they’ll give up 81.
Also, with the Kings, there isn’t an established veteran leader in the locker room outside of Zach Randolph and head coach Dave Joerger. Irving immediately becomes the man, the leader and it seems very reminiscent of pre-LeBron Cleveland.
Especially in a loaded Western Conference, Kyrie and the Kings would bring people to Golden One center, but they certainly would be a terrible defense that would lead to a lot more losses than victories.
