5 worst landing spots for Kyrie Irving
3. Orlando Magic
Kyrie Irving wants to go to the Miami Heat? OK, let’s send him to the other Florida team, it’s pretty close anyways — just in location.
The Orlando Magic are an absolute mess right now. Their best players are Evan Fournier, Nikola Vucevic and Elfrid Payton. Although they have a defensive-minded head coach in Frank Vogel, their defensive rating was 22nd in the NBA last year.
The Magic offense was even worse, ranking 29th in the whole league. The Magic would probably have to give up some of their young assets in exchange for Kyrie, leaving him on a complete island in Orlando.
The team would continue to struggle defensively and Irving could fall back into his old ways of score-first and pass-second. The Magic won 29 games last year and if they were to flip Fournier and Vucevic for Irving, would they really win more than their total last year?
None of the great teams need a point guard and the bad teams that do need point guards are more than one piece away from being a playoff contender. That’s the biggest issue for Irving and why it could be a colossal failure in a city like Orlando.
