Every MLB team’s Mount Rushmore
Houston Astros
The Houston Astros were led for a decade by a trio known as the “Killer B’s”. Each of the three gentlemen earn a spot in a Mount Rushmore featuring three Hall of Famers.
Craig Biggio played multiple positions for the Astros during his career. He started off as a catcher and also played second base and left field. Biggio spent his entire 20-year career with the Astros, winning five Silver Sluggers (one as a catcher and four at second base) and four Gold Gloves (all at second base). He is the franchise leader in hits, doubles, runs scored and games played.
It’s hard to think of Biggio without immediately thinking of Jeff Bagwell too. Bagwell is the franchise’s career leader in bWAR, home runs, walks and RBIs. Just like Biggio, “Baggy” spent his entire career with the Astros. He won the 1991 NL Rookie of the Year and 1994 NL MVP.
Lance Berkman is among the franchise leaders in most offensive categories. With the Astros, he placed in the MVP voting on multiple occasions. Berkman had 326 home runs and 375 doubles with Houston, helping to lead them to an improbable 2005 World Series appearance.
Nolan Ryan might wear a Texas Rangers hat in Cooperstown, but one could argue his best years came with the Houston Astros. He’s the franchise leader in strikeouts and of the four teams he played for, his 3.13 ERA with the Astros is the second lowest, trailing only the Angels.
Honorable mentions: Roy Oswalt shouldn’t be forgotten, as he nearly took Ryan off this list. Don’t be shocked if Jose Altuve is on this list by the end of his career.
