Kansas City Royals

The Kansas City Royals’ Mount Rushmore is led by one of the greatest hitters of the past 40 years.

George Brett is without question the greatest player in Royals history. Not only is he the franchise leader in a ton of categories, to this day, he remains the only team player to win an MVP, which he did in 1980. Brett, to this day, is the only Royal to reach the 3,000 hit plateau. He spent his entire career with Kansas City and his 88.4 bWAR is nearly double that of Amos Otis in second place.

Frank White spent his entire 18-year career with the Royals. He won eight Gold Gloves and a Silver Slugger at second base. White also went to five All-Star Games. He’s one of the most popular players in franchise history and is the lone player other than Brett (and Jackie Robinson) to have his number retired by the Royals.

Brett Saberhagen won two AL Cy Young Awards in the 1980’s for the Royals. He was a huge part of the 1985 World Series champions. Saberhagen’s 40.8 bWAR trails only Kevin Appier among pitchers.

Alex Gordon is the necessary member from the 2014 and 2015 Royals on this list. He ranks fifth all-time among Kansas City position players in bWAR as of July of 2017 and will likely pass Frank White fairly shortly for fourth place.

Honorable mentions: Dan Quisenberry is the best reliever in team history and to this day is the only player to win the Rolaids Relief Man of the Year four times.
