Every MLB team’s Mount Rushmore
Philadelphia Phillies
The most loved team in Philadelphia has a pretty impressive Mount Rushmore. Philly’s version of the Mount Rushmore is one of the best among MLB franchises.
Mike Schmidt is probably the first person anyone over 20 thinks of when they think of the Phillies. He’s the franchise leader in bWAR, home runs, games played, and RBIs. Schmidt won three NL MVPs and the 1980 World Series MVP. He also won 10 Gold Gloves and six Silver Slugger Awards.
Steve Carlton pitched for the Phillies back in the 1970’s and 1980’s. With them, he won four Cy Young Awards and played a huge role in the 1980 World Series championship. Carlton is the franchise leader in wins, strikeouts and games started.
Robin Roberts led the National League in wins in four straight seasons from 1952 to 1955. He was a seven-time All-Star and is a member of the Baseball Hall of Fame. One of the best MLB pitchers in the 1950’s.
Chase Utley ranks second in franchise history in bWAR among position players. The heart and soul of the Phillies for many years, he ranks among the franchise leaders in a variety of hitting stats. Of course, Utley’s legacy in Philly revolves around the 2008 and 2009 teams.
Honorable mentions: Richie Ashburn is a Hall of Famer, but to be fair, the Veteran’s Committee had to get him in. Jimmy Rollins is one of the most popular players in franchise history and has an MVP over Utley, but the bWAR battle isn’t even close. Chase was more consistently great than Jimmy.
