2. Reunite with Asdrubal Cabrera or find infield depth

Juan Uribe and Michael Martinez were both underrated parts of the 2016 Indians team’s run to the World Series. While Uribe was cut in early August, his presence in the clubhouse early in the season was helpful in pushing the team into playoff contention after a slow start. Martinez helped briefly earlier this year, hitting .364 in 15 games as an injury fill-in.

In a year where All-Star second baseman Jason Kipnis has dealt with injuries that landed him on the DL twice, the Indians can never have enough depth to play all over the infield. Kipnis has slumped to a .232/.292/.402 line in the 66 games that he has taken the field and will not be back for at least another week nursing a hamstring strain.

When Kipnis does return, it would serve the Indians well to have a solid backup to help him down the stretch. When he does need to sit, the ability to use a solid veteran like Asdrubal Cabrera would benefit the Indians. Cabrera and the Indians are already familiar with each other and he has made the move over to second base with the New York Mets.

Another interesting name to consider is Yangervis Solarte, who would offer the Indians more overall utility than Cabrera. Solarte is working back from an oblique injury, but is expected back in early August. In 71 games with the San Diego Padres, Solarte hit .268/.349/.425 with 10 home runs and 40 RBI. Cabrera would cost the Indians less in terms of putting together a trade package, but Solarte has more upside.
