21. Pittsburgh Steelers

We’ve seen continuous success from the Pittsburgh Steelers over the last 17 years, but nothing can compare to what they’ve been able to do with Ben Roethlisberger under center since 2004.

The team won a Super Bowl in just Roethlisberger’s second season in the league, which could be considered lucky on its own, but it did come with some serious controversy. The Steelers went up against the Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL, and took home a 21-10 victory, but many agree that the referees weren’t exactly the best for the contest.

The referees for that Super Bowl have admitted in the past that they made some game-altering mistakes throughout that ending up going against the Seahawks, which, of course, turn beneficial for the Steelers in the end. If not for those mistakes, who knows if we would’ve seen Roethlisberger lead the Steelers to a title as early as he did?

In their next title, the second in just four seasons, one moment defined the entire victory. Santonio Holmes’ game-winning catch against the Arizona Cardinals was one of the greatest catches in Super Bowl history, and could possibly never happen again if you put Roethlisberger and Holmes back in that spot. It was an incredibly skilled throw, and an even better catch, but you can’t argue against the low probability the play had.

With no luck involved, the Steelers lost their next Super Bowl appearance to the Green Bay Packers, so maybe you can say they need lucky plays or calls in their favor for them to win championships. Just saying.
