James Harden and Chris Paul show out at Drew League

New Houston Rockets teammates James Harden and Chris Paul showed out in the first game together at the Drew League.
You may have heard in passing that the Houston Rockets made a blockbuster deal for one of the best point guards of his generation: Chris Paul.
You may have also heard in passing that the Rockets already have a ball-dominant, superstar (quasi-) point guard: James Harden.
The two superstars played their first game in front of the public and showed out, turning questions of their fit into excitement over the possibilities:
Dwyane Wade could have had this play in mind when he decided he wanted a jersey:
This play may not seem like a big deal. It’s your run-of-the-mill two-man game, with Harden bringing the ball up, passing to Paul who initiates the offense and tosses it back to Harden for an open 3-pointer. But, within the context of understanding that Harden ranked dead-last in openness for 3s, and this play is a huge deal.
That goes without mentioning Paul’s mid-range mastery. Though it violates everything within Moreyball, plays like this will allow the Rockets to be less predictable in any playoff series now that they will attack from three levels.
The issues that were foreseen between Harden and Paul were their games to dominate ball-handling during possessions. If that clip above, is just a smidge of what the two of them will be able to do during the season, then the Rockets have certainly improved themselves enough to vault into the second-best team in the West.

Still, it’s really early. The questions surrounding the fit between Harden and Paul won’t go away because of one outing at the Drew League.
