15 current college football head coaches who’d make great TV analysts
Once considered the second-best coach in the Big Ten and top-five in the nation, Michigan State’s Mark Dantonio has taken a bit of a step back this past season after suffering through a 3-9 campaign and even more tumultuous offseason. He’s lost four players to sexual assault dismissals and a number of transfers.
However, he’s handled everything the way he’s supposed to and is one of those coaches who doesn’t make excuses, rather he ponders solutions. He’s one of the more level-headed guys in college football and he’s a joy to listen to because his sarcasm is often disguised by a serious look.
While he might seem like a hard-nosed coach all the time and looks like he barely smiles, he has a fun side to him as well — he brought rapper Rich Homie Quan to the locker room to celebrate a Rose Bowl victory in 2013.
Dantonio is smart, experienced and doesn’t beat around the bush. He’s not afraid to tell it how it is. Sports broadcasting could use more honest analysts with integrity and that’s where Dantonio comes in.
