You know how I said not many coaches in college football are adored by their players as much as LSU’s Ed Orgeron? Well, Charlie Strong might just be one step ahead of the Tigers’ head coach as he was celebrated by former players even after he was let go by Texas following the 2016 season.

Texas wasn’t in the best position when Strong took over, though. The Longhorns had been a far cry from the glory days, but the program still had all the tools and resources to be one of the best in college football. However, Strong just couldn’t seem to get over the hump. He led Texas to a bowl in his first season with six wins and recruited well, but was just 5-7 in 2015 and 2016.

Still, players seemed to love playing for him and he was a heck of a personality on the sidelines. This is one guy who players would go to war for.

Strong has since taken the job with the South Florida Bulls and looks to lead one of the best Group of Five teams in 2016. If anyone can continue the positive culture change at USF, it’s Strong. Outside of some off-field hiccups from his team this offseason, he’s been a great leader.

This is a guy you’d have to respect as an analyst.
