6. Mayweather met with Donald Trump after the presidential election

Given that Floyd Mayweather Jr.’s visit with Chechen dictator Ramzan Kadyrov has already been mentioned, it will come as no surprise that “Money” will gleefully meet with almost any remotely supportive power broker. Enter U.S. President Donald Trump, who invited Mayweather to Trump Tower. Trump has a longstanding and obnoxious relationship with boxing and star fighters, although he hilariously decried Mayweather’s first win over Marcos Maidana in a Twitter diatribe.

Anyway, when TMZ caught up with Mayweather, who was slated to attend Trump’s inauguration, the boxer unsurprisingly didn’t have a single thoughtful or critical thing to say about the President. Instead, in the TMZ interview, Mayweather’s assessment of Trump predictably related back to Mayweather himself, before devolving into cliche:

"“I like everybody. I don’t have nothing against nobody. He’s never been mean to me. Donald Trump came out to support me for the Manny Pacquiao fight, and I was appreciative for that. A lot of times what we do is we judge people that we really don’t know. We judge people that we really don’t know. So I’m not here to say nothing negative about nobody. Barack Obama was a good president, and hopefully, Donald Trump is a good president.”"

Mayweather’s audience with Trump wasn’t his only brush with the presidency. In 2007, then-Senator Barack Obama, looking to secure marquee endorsements, met with Mayweather, a highly suspect decision given Mayweather’s history of domestic violence. Although Mayweather wasn’t exactly a meaningful presence during the campaign, he recently hinted that Obama, not to mention Trump, may attend his fight against Conor McGregor. Let’s chalk that claim up to promotional gamesmanship, and nothing more.
