Beyoncé may be adding NBA owner to her resume with Houston Rockets bid
Superstar singer Beyoncé is reportedly interested in an ownership stake in the Houston Rockets.
According to the Houston Chronicle, Beyoncé is currently deciding whether or not she wants to invest in the Houston Rockets.
Rockets owner Les Alexander is looking to sell the team after a recent valuation showed the team surging in price. The team could be worth upwards of $2 million, which would be the biggest sale in NBA history.
Meanwhile, Alexander paid just $85 million to buy the team back in 1993.
Still, it’s surprising that Alexander wants to sell the team. Houston is expected to be one of the best teams in the league next season. They retained James Harden with a huge extension and traded for one of the best point guards in Chris Paul.
Last season, the Rockets finished third in a crowded Western Conference and should be even better in 2017-2018.
For her part, Beyoncé is not unfamiliar with sports ownership. Her husband, rapper Jay-Z, used to be a less-than-one-percent owner of the Brooklyn Nets. Much like her husband, who is from Brooklyn, her interest in the Rockets lies in it being her hometown team. Beyoncé was born and raised in Houston.
Many musicians are part owners of basketball teams. Nelly is part of an ownership group that owns the Charlotte Bobcats. Usher has a stake in the Cleveland Cavaliers. Justin Timberlake, too, bought into the Memphis Grizzlies.
Beyoncé is also known to be an avid basketball fan. She is often spotted court-side at games with Jay-Z. Moreover, she’s known to be an astute businesswoman and it’s a smart move: Investment in the Rockets will surely yield big gains in the years to come as their value can only rise.

There are surely a number of suitors interested in the team, so Beyoncé might have a hard time fitting into a group that is willing to pay the hefty sum. As of press time, the Rockets, Beyoncé’s publicist, representatives at Sony Music Entertainment and a spokeswoman for Jay-Z did not respond for comment.
