4. Los Angeles Dodgers

The Dodgers pulled off the stunner of the trade deadline by pulling Yu Darvish out of their hat a few minutes after the 4 p.m. EST deadline. If that was the only move the Dodgers made, it would have been enough. Assuming Clayton Kershaw returns to full health by the middle of August or early September, the Dodgers have their playoff rotation set, and it’s going to be a doozy.

Los Angeles has already won 74 games and are 38-5 in their past 43 games. They are just playing out of their minds and stringing together win streaks at a clip that has not been seen in recent MLB history. The Dodgers are on pace to win 114 games, and that is not even accounting for their scorching-hot stretch.

This is MLB’s most complete team, with five of the league’s top-50 players measured by WAR. Justin Turner is having a career year. Corey Seager is still an all-world shortstop. Rookie Cody Bellinger has had just as much impact as Aaron Judge. Alex Wood and Clayton Kershaw area a lock for a win whenever they take the ball. Kenley Jansen is unconscious in the bullpen.

Darvish was not even the only move the Dodgers made. They also upgraded their bullpen with Tony Watson and Tony Cingrani. Neither is as good as Zach Britton, but Walker Buehler is waiting in the wings to throw unhittable sliders in the playoffs. The only major prospect the Dodgers gave up at the deadline was Willie Calhoun, who is ready as a hitter but has no set position. Dodgers fans have been upset with Andrew Friedman’s hesitancy to trade prospects in past years, but there is no reason to complain this year.
