4. Auburn Tigers (13)

The Auburn Tigers will begin the season as the 13th-ranked team in the Coaches Poll. That is one of the biggest leaps after they finished the 2016 season 8-5 and ranked 22nd.

However, that’s still too low.

Auburn has maybe the most important transfer in all of college football. Jarrett Stidham is finally ready to play after sitting out a year due to transferring from Baylor. During his freshman year, he performed admirably by throwing for 12 touchdowns and 1,265 yards in 10 games of limited action. His play would be huge for a team that hasn’t had an adequate quarterback for a few seasons now.

The Tigers will have 15 starters returning from last year’s team, a factor that can be a good predictor of future success.

ESPN’s Football Power Index also has Auburn ranked as the fifth best team in the country. the power index is a big fan of the Tigers. According to ESPN’s stats and information, they are in some pretty elite company:

"With the No. 5 offense, No. 7 special teams and No. 10 defense, Auburn joins Ohio State and Alabama as the only schools projected to have three top-10 units."

The SEC doesn’t appear to be as strong as in past years, but that doesn’t mean they will be a cake walk either. To make matters worse, Auburn faces the defending national champions in Week 2. However, they have the talent to come up with some big victories and climb the board very early on in the season.
