The summer transfer window is upon us and every team’s fans are dreaming of a big signing.

Once again, this week’s headlines have been dominated by Neymar. That spectacle has been discussed at length in this column already, so we’ll avoid it (although, now that his exit is looking more plausible, it’s worth considering who might be on their way to Barca).

Every week, FanSided will round up some of the most pie-in-the-sky gossip. Will it be Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Celtic? Paul Pogba back to Juventus? Ronaldinho out of retirement to play in MLS?

Here are the five dumbest transfer rumors of the week.

1. Danny Drinkwater to Chelsea

It’s not so much the rumor itself that’s dumb here. What’s dumb is the idea that Chelsea would sell Nemanja Matic just to replace him with Drinkwater. The two players are not of the same caliber, and it’s hardly like the Leicester midfielder would be an acquisition for the future; he’s just two years younger than Matic.

The champions have done some questionable things this summer, but this would probably top them all. It’s not like Leicester are desperately looking to offload Drinkwater; they’d demand a pretty substantial fee for him. The decision to get rid of Matic makes a lot more sense if the Blues have their eye on a more talented player, or on a younger player who’ll play in their midfield in the long term. Drinkwater is neither.
