MLB Wild Card Standings: Despite rough week, Royals hold slim lead
NL Wild Card Standings
Colorado Rockies (64-48, .571, +0.5)
Charlie Blackmon, D.J. LeMahieu, Gerardo Parra and Nolan Arenado each picked up at least eight hits last week. Arenado homered twice and drove in seven runs – both of which led the club – in six games, and Blackmon led the team with seven runs scored.
Jeff Hoffman and Jon Gray led the starting rotation last week. Hoffman worked 13 innings across two starts, and allowed just three runs while striking out 13. Gray picked up a win Saturday after holding the Phillies to one run on six hits and a walk in seven innings.
Arizona Diamondbacks (63-48, .568)
Patrick Corbin and Zack Greinke were hit hard last week, but Zack Godley and Anthony Banda picked up the slack in a big way. Godley worked six scoreless innings in his most recent start, while Banda allowed one earned run in six innings for his first career major league victory.
Paul Goldschmidt homered three times, and led the Diamondbacks with 10 hits and 11 RBI last week. David Peralta and A.J. Pollock each scored six times.
Milwaukee Brewers (59-54, .522, 5 GB)
St. Louis Cardinals (55-56, .495, 8 GB)
Pittsburgh Pirates (54-57, .486, 9 GB)
Miami Marlins (52-57, .477, 10 GB)
Atlanta Braves (51-59, .464, 11.5 GB)
New York Mets (49-60, .450, 13 GB)
San Diego Padres (49-61, .445, 13.5 GB)
Cincinnati Reds (45-66, .405, 18 GB)
San Francisco Giants (44-69, .389, 20 GB)
Philadelphia Phillies (40-69, .367, 22 GB)
The Diamondbacks and Rockies have jockeyed for the right to host the NL Wild Card game, and the Rockies hold the slightest of leads after the first week of August.
The Brewers made progress in the NL Central last week, and are just a half-game behind the Cubs in the division. However, Milwaukee is still five games back in the NL Wild Card race. With the Cardinals eight games back and the Pirates the only other NL team within double digits, it’s basically a three-horse race.
