Premier League 2017-18 kit rankings

9. Southampton
We now begin our ascent into the top tier of kits. Southampton’s home jersey is one of the rare ones that has a lot going on but still pulls it off well.
It’s tough to make anything spectacular when there are only two solid colors, but the Under Armour team did an admirable job. I particularly enjoy the razor thin vertical black stripes that encompass the clean white middle. The equally gaunt horizontal ribbons on the sleeve accent the top well. My biggest problem with the kit is, surprise, the sponsor’s logo.
A simple fix could be to adjust the size difference of the words. I don’t have any problems with Virgin Media, or with Virgins in general. I just don’t really want that plastered and underlined over my soccer jersey. A quick glance gives an entirely different impression than the intention.
Regardless of the sponsor, both the home and away kits look great. My preference is with the away jersey, though.

This is easily my favorite striped jersey on this list. The green/teal coloring (forgive me for not knowing exact colors, most of my wardrobe is grey) fits in perfectly with the black outline. I’ve always found darker striped combinations work better than lighter for some reason. I also prefer how the Virgin Media logo blends into the shirt, rather than having the filled color of the home kit. Less obtrusive sponsors will always win points.
Under Armour the kit manufacturer for the Saints, and is the only one they provide for in the Premier League as well. After seeing their handiwork this season, they might assuage more clubs to join them.
