3. Michael Conlan

Conor McGregor may be the biggest name to come out of Ireland in the combat sports world, but he’s not the only one. Michael Conlan is a World Amateur champion, a European Amateur champion and a Commonwealth Games champion in addition to being an Olympic bronze medalist.

Michael Conlan is a World Amateur boxing champion, a European Amateur champion and a Commonwealth Games champion in addition to being an Olympic bronze medalist. The Irishman was controversially eliminated in the quarterfinals of the 2016 Olympics. He would later give an interview in which he blasted the amateur boxing community of being rife with corruption.

He made his professional boxing debut in March and has a 3-0 record since then. Each of his professional wins has come by way of TKO in the third round.

Conlan has complimented McGregor’s boxing skills in the past. Conlan also seems to believe that McGregor’s experience is being understated, saying:

“I’ve seen MMA fighters doing boxing skills and you’re saying, ‘They’re OK, but they’re definitely not going to be a boxer’. But Conor definitely has the skill. He was a good boxer as an amateur, he was in the national championships a few times. He has great experience. Ireland’s amateur boxing team is very tough and very strong. So he had a good learning curve there.”

McGregor has brought Conlan in to help prepare for the Mayweather fight already and a pro boxer and Olympic medalist walking with him could help add some legitimacy to McGregor’s chances.

McGregor walked out with Conlan for the bantamweight’s debut in March, it seems only right that Conlan returns the favor.
