Napoli are strong enough to win the title

Are Napoli good enough to win the title? This question has been asked at the start of every season for the past few years and the answer has remained a resounding no. But with Juventus focused on several fronts, it’s possible for Napoli to win their first title since 1990, when Diego Maradona played for them.

Napoli didn’t bring in many reinforcements ahead of this season and will be banking on their veterans, most notably former Liverpool ‘keeper Pepe Reina, midfielder Marek Hamsik and speedy wingers Lorenzo Insigne and Dries Mertens, to get the job done. A healthy Arkadiusz Milik, who only played 17 games last season due to a torn ACL he suffered early in the season, could make all the difference in the final third.

Napoli lack the big names, but were able to finish third overall last season after the team scored a league-leading 94 goals and played the most entertaining brand of soccer of any team in Italy. The team also amassed the most points, even more than Juventus, in the present calendar year. If the core members of the squad can remain healthy and it can take points away from Juventus, then Napoli, a two-time league champion, have a real shot at winning the title.
