Louisville – James Hearns

We all know what we’re going to get out of the reigning Heisman trophy winner Lamar Jackson. The second coming of Michael Vick and mastermind head coach Bobby Petrino gives the Cardinals a real shot to win the Conference. James Hearns, on the other hand, gives Louisville the dangerous pass rush they need to close out games. The 6-foot-3 linebacker covers a lot of ground and fills the leadership void. Hearns did suffer a scare back in December after being shot but did not suffer any life-threatening injuries.

Valuable pass rusher Devonte Fields has moved on and there is now a big void to worry about. Replacing Fields’ sack production is no easy task. Hearns among others on the defense will have to step up as a collective unit. Hearns is a 23-year-old proven college veteran who seems to be in the best position to lead this unit. Now it’s Hearns time to step up who was really highly recruited but never turned into a star per say.

Another overlooked factor was Louisville’s ability to stop the run in 2016. Trusted defensive tackle DeAngelo Brown is off to the next level who will be sorely missed. Louisville was one of the better teams at stopping the run a year ago.

Bobby Petrino has this program rolling and will have Louisville in the mix of things. With a proven quarterback and solid defense, Louisville can make some noise in 2017-2018. The Cardinals will start the season ranked 17 in the first coaches poll.
