3. Devin Booker, 86 Overall

Devin Booker is a promising young player. Last spring he became just the sixth player in NBA history to score 70 or more points in a game…70 freaking points!!! Booker’s offensive talent is undeniable; he has a ridiculously advanced offensive game for his young age. He scores at will, attacking the basket and getting to the line at a high rate. Booker is an average shooter from deep, but if he shows an uptick in that facet of his game, his scoring ability will be deadly.

If we just compare Booker’s rating to those of fellow youngsters Kristaps Porzingis and Joel Embiid though, an overall rating of 86 is clearly too high for him despite his scoring prowess. Jojo and the Zinger also received ratings of 86 and they are substantially more effective players than Booker at this point. Those guys have also demonstrated more  potential to become superstars and long-term franchise cornerstones than Booker.

Booker is not anywhere close to being an All-NBA level player right now and he’d have to make a substantial leap to even reach the All-Star game this season. That certainly isn’t out of the realm of possibility, but such a jump doesn’t seem likely especially because the Suns project to be a weak team again.

Right now Booker is a dynamic scorer that is also turnstile on defense. He also hasn’t shown much interest in improving his game on the defensive end of the floor. He’ll also have to become a better playmaker to really compete for an All-Star spot with the loaded guard crop in the West. A rating in the lower 80s would be more appropriate for Phoenix’s young gunner.
