The only thing standing between these ninjas and the American Ninja Warrior season 9 national finals is the Denver finals course.

This is it: the last of the city finals rounds in this season of American Ninja Warrior. The national finals will start Sept. 4, and, with big names like Grant McCartney failing to make it to Las Vegas, there’s room for new ninjas to make a big splash (metaphorically, anyway).

But if they want to challenge Midoriyama, they’ll need to make it past the Denver finals course.

Each finals course only adds four obstacles to the six originally seen in the qualifying rounds. NBC’s press description for the episode carefully tells us absolutely nothing about any new obstacles, but let’s take a look at the tape to see what else we can see.

As YouTube comments point out, you can spot the Wedge immediately following the Salmon Ladder. That would continue a trend of putting new obstacles into the ninth spot, directly ahead of the Elevator Climb. That’s what we saw at last week’s Kansas City finals with the Iron Maiden. Of course, cities like Cleveland had their new obstacles go into the eighth position, directly after the Salmon Ladder.

A quick look at the photos also shows that there’s not much in the way of any evidence as to what lies between the Wedge and the Elevator Climb — evidence that NBC likely wants to keep whatever’s coming close to the chest in order to surprise fans.

Or, possibly, evidence that no one’s going to survive the Wedge.

But we’ll remain positive and hope that at least some ninjas reach the ninth obstacle and beyond. It’d be nice to go into the national finals with people actually finishing after Kansas City defeated all who challenged it.
