The Twins took sole possession of the final AL Wild Card spot last week, but the Indians strengthened their lead in the division race. Cleveland split four games with the Red Sox to start the week, then swept the Royals in dominant fashion in a three-game weekend set to finish with a 6.5-game cushion in the standings.

The Tribe held Kansas City scoreless in all three games, which was the first time the franchise tossed three straight shutouts in a series since 1956. Ryan Merritt, Mike Clevinger and Carlos Carrasco each picked up wins over the weekend, and the trio combined for 19.2 scoreless innings in the process. Cleveland has now shut out the Royals six times this year.
