Len Bias

Len Bias was one of, if not the most athletic college basketball player that ever suited up. That’s saying a lot considering some of the elite level talent there has been over the years, not just counting in the ACC. He spent four seasons with the Terrapins, and left an everlasting mark on the program. Bias initially didn’t play much as a freshman, but was given a chance his sophomore season and he ran away with it. He became a household name his last two seasons in college, where he averaged 18.9 points and 6.8 rebounds, then 23.2 points and 7 rebounds per game respectively. He was named the ACC Player of the Year for both of those dazzling seasons, and also a consensus First-Team All American for his senior season.

He didn’t invent the alley-oop, but he surely popularized it during the 1980s. Although Bias was mostly known for his highlight reel dunks, he also possessed a solid mid-range jumper with a nice blend of post moves. His athleticism also allowed him to block shots and send them into the stands. He was truly an enigmatic force each and every time that he stepped on the court. Bias would make the top 5 on this list for his potential ability to become a star in today’s NBA. He seemed to be way ahead of his peers during his playing days, and it would certainly would have been fun to see him run the floor these days.
