Centers

2k began its reveal with the big men, which is probably the position that has seen the most evolution in terms of how it is used since the advent of the NBA 2k franchise. Gone are the days when bulky forces of nature like this year’s cover athlete, Shaquille O’Neal, drove the offense with a variety of post-up moves. Instead of pushing toward the basket with the ball in tow, centers in today’s NBA often actually vacate the lane in the hopes that they will pull rim defenders out with them.

This is done to give way to guards and forwards, who have proven to be not only better shooters but better ball handlers and passers, room to create scoring chances. The size and physicality of centers is much better served in rebounding and protecting their own rim from opponents’ penetration attempts. In this new role, some centers are thriving, and the ratings show who the good folks at 2k Sports think have adapted the best.
