A new professional sports jersey subscription club, Rep The Squad, is focused on providing fans with new ways to show off their love of their favorite NFL teams.

Rep The Squad is at its core a new twist on the monthly merchandise subscription model that seems to have a variation for nearly any and every human interest. For NFL fans, and someday fans of many more sports, it’s an opportunity for much more.

Rep The Squad launched its business on Wednesday, Aug. 30, offering customers the opportunity to subscribe to the service for a monthly fee. The club, which costs $19.95 a month for adult jerseys and $16.95 per month for youth sizes, offers fans a chance to always stay on top of jersey trends.

“What got me truly excited about our business model is that it is a platform to take people’s fan-hoods to the next level,” said Rep The Squad CEO Brian Watkins. “For example, you may have a regular home Matthew Stafford jersey. The question then becomes, do you have his away, Salute to Service, Color Rush, etc. jersey? This completely opens up access to elevating your passion for your team.”

The Seattle-based company’s stock is currently limited to three NFL teams: the squad in its hometown (the Seahawks), the San Francisco 49ers and the Detroit Lions. The company has a vision to offer adult and youth jerseys to fans of all sports and teams, however. Watkins said that includes women’s jerseys as well.

For fans curious as to how the club works, think of Netflix when it first launched. Subscribers will set up a custom “locker room” of desired jerseys, and denote in which order they would like to receive them. The company will ship out the first jersey (at no additional cost for shipping) and the subscriber can wear the jersey for as long as he/she likes. When the subscriber is ready for the next jersey in their queue, all they have to do is ship the current jersey back (again at no additional cost) and the next one in the queue will be sent out. Should a subscriber decide that they would like to keep a particular jersey, there is also an option to buy.

The stock of available jerseys will be updated as new styles by officially licensed apparel providers like Nike release them. In that way, fans who subscribe will have an edge on their family and friends in terms of being able to wear the latest and greatest jerseys available, and do so without spending the hundreds of dollars that would otherwise be necessary. Additionally, subscribers don’t have to worry about “obsolete” jerseys from player transactions or new designs cluttering up their closets.

More people than just fans are excited about the new service. The company has received investments from NFL players including Doug Baldwin, Golden Tate and Russell Okung. Additionally, Richard Sherman is the company’s first brand ambassador.

“We were just at Richard Sherman’s house on Sunday,” Watkins commented. “He is totally engaged, not just as a brand ambassador but giving us business ideas as well. We are thrilled to have him supporting us.”

As Rep The Squad’s business grows, the practice of saving up to buy one jersey and then wait until resources dictate that another can be purchased may become obsolete for fans.

“Our product solves a lot of problems for sports fans,” stated Watkins. “I think the world of subscription services is still evolving with lots of room for companies to experiment in. We are focused on making quality jerseys available to fans in a new way.”
