Since coming to Oakland, closer Blake Treinen has been able to get himself back on track. No one doubted that the right-hander with the 97-mph sinker had the potential to be a great bullpen weapon, but he just had to put it all together. In 21 games with the A’s, Treinen has a 1.88 ERA and 25 strikeouts.

Treinen has blown three saves in Oakland but has been a positive overall. Closer is not exactly the most important hole the A’s need to fill, but Treinen comes with several years of team control at a low price.

If you predicted during Spring Training that Scooter Gennett would have 23 home runs and 81 RBI by the end of August, feel free to consider yourself the single greatest prognosticator in the history of baseball. Prior to this season, Gennett had never hit more than 14 in a season. The Reds claimed him off waivers at the end of March. Gennett has been much more than a fluke four-homer game — he now has to be thought of among the elite offensive second basemen in the league.

There are very few pitchers left in Major League Baseball who do not support the growing argument that there is little reason to continue keeping the DH out of the National League. Wood just topped 10 career home runs and has a career .316 slugging percentage. He has also struck out 114 times in 294 official at-bats, but it’s still impressive that he has knocked 10 out of the park.

The first season of Wil Myers’ long-term deal in San Diego is going to go down as a bust. He is hitting .187/.296/.387 in the second half. This is the second year in a row that Myers has seen his production fall off dramatically after the All-Star Game.
