Overtime

After my five-day binge-watch of college football comes to an end with Tennessee-Georgia Tech on Monday, I’ll have two football-free days before the NFL season begins on Thursday Night with the New England Patriots hosting the Kansas City Chiefs. I’m not one of those college football fans that hates the NFL, and it seemed like the “college football is better than the NFL” and the “NFL is better than college football” guy was out in full force on Twitter this weekend. But I’m a guy who loves both and I’m pumped to have them back in my life.

I think New England, Pittsburgh, Houston, Oakland, Kansas City and Tennessee make the AFC Playoffs. I think Dallas, Green Bay, Atlanta, Seattle, Arizona and Carolina make the NFC Playoffs. I’m picking New England over Green Bay in the Super Bowl because Tom Brady and Aaron Rodgers are the two best quarterbacks in the league and without one, you have zero chance of winning a Super Bowl.

Friendly Tip: If you’re a DirecTV customer and have been with them for a long time, call them up and see if there are any special offers or promotions you can take advantage of to get NFL Sunday Ticket for free. I did it and I got hooked up with it for free. All I had to do was agree to stay with DirecTV for a year. I was going to anyway, so I got the free package for spending 10 minutes on the phone with a friendly customer service rep, who told me she’s a big Alabama fan, so Roll Tide to that.

What I’m watching this week

When I’m not watching college football and the NFL, I’m putting in heavy hours on Netflix. Narcos season 3 arrived on Friday and I need to finish the second half of the season. I watched the first six of the 10 episodes via advanced screeners thanks to my work on Netflix Life but football kept me from finishing off the last four episodes. The show is a different than the first two seasons due to the loss of the main character and the show’s narrator, but it’s still very good. It’s going to take an episode or two to get used to the spin-off vibe, but once you do, you’re going to dig the new tone with the Cali Cartel.

— The Schmidt List returns next Sunday morning and will contain all the post-game reactions from across the country. the Week 2 slate of games includes Auburn at Clemson, Georgia at Notre Dame, Oklahoma at Ohio State and Stanford at USC.
