Derwin James

S, Florida State

While the Florida State Seminoles lost to the Alabama Crimson Tide to begin the season on Saturday night, Derwin James came out and made a strong impression. In his first return, after an injury cost him all of the last season, James made his presence felt.

He finished the game against the Crimson Tide with six tackles, a half of a sack and half of a tackle for a loss. He was all over the field and putting on display the ability that has made everyone fawn over his talent level in the first place.

While the Florida State offense struggled to put up points, the defense showed why they have some serious playmakers. At the end of the day for the program, it’s about the loss and the fact that they weren’t able to get the job done.

For a leader like James, that’s all he cares about as well. However, the fact that he was healthy and making an impact on the field is something that he can continue to build off and should give plenty of excitement to everyone.

He’s been working hard ever since last September’s injury to get back to this point. If his first game against a powerhouse is any indication, his draft stock is going to be just fine and on the rise going forward.
