The 50 most interesting players in European hoops: Nos. 50-41
45. Will Clyburn, SF, CSKA Moscow
While we’ve mostly identified high-level role players so far, Clyburn has the opportunity to be more than that on his new team at CSKA. Clyburn was a key part of Darussafaka’s playoff run last season, creating significant mismatches as a 6-foot-6 secondary ball-handler with the strength to battle with fours on defense and the quickness to blow by bigger players offensively. He is a powerful finisher out of isolation situations, and while his shooting is inconsistent, he has a knack for hitting big shots and his free throw rate has been monstrous in the past, which should bode better at CSKA than in Turkey, where free play is more encouraged.
With Teodosic off to the NBA and Aaron Jackson off to China, CSKA has a playmaking void to fill next to Nando De Colo. Clyburn will help to bridge that gap, and his new wide-open offense should help him find better pathways to the rim and make better use of his one-on-one abilities. He’s certainly not at the level of the players he is replacing, but his fit in a strong ball-movement offense is going to be interesting as he can be a bit of a ball-stopper.
