MLB Wild Card Standings: Rockies collapse as Brewers surge
AL Wild Card Standings
New York Yankees (73-63, .537, +2)
The AL East is still in play, but the Yankees have yet to wrap up a postseason spot of any kind despite winning three of four games against the rival Red Sox over the weekend. New York dug itself a hole earlier in the week being swept in three games at home by the Indians.
Minnesota Twins (71-65, .522, – GB)
Pitching played a key role in keeping the Twins in the second Wild Card spot. Jose Berrios and Kyle Gibson combined for 13 scoreless innings last week, and surrendered just seven combined hits and one walk.
Los Angeles Angels (70-67, .511, 1.5 GB)
Baltimore Orioles (70-67, .511, 1.5 GB)
Seattle Mariners (69-68, .504, 2.5 GB)
Texas Rangers (68-68, .500, 3 GB)
Kansas City Royals (67-68, .496, 3.5 GB)
Tampa Bay Rays (68-70, .493, 4 GB)
Toronto Blue Jays (63-74, .460, 8.5 GB)
Oakland Athletics (58-78, .426, 13 GB)
Detroit Tigers (58-78, .426, 13 GB)
Chicago White Sox (54-81, .400, 16.5 GB)
Los Angeles managed to keep pace in the AL Wild Card standings thanks to an explosive offensive performance. C.J. Cron and Albert Pujols tied for the big league lead with 11 RBI in six games last week, and Mike Trout led the majors with 11 runs scored, a .625 batting average and .714 on-base percentage. However, pitching failed the team twice in three games over the weekend against the Rangers.
Three Orioles hitters – Welington Castillo, Manny Machado and Jonathan Schoop – had 12 hits apiece last week. All three scored five runs as the O’s won X games. Castillo led the club and tied for the MLB lead for the week with four home runs, and also drove in eight runs, helping the club pull to within 1.5 games of the second AL Wild Card spot.
