Fantasy football: top 10 waiver wire Week 1 pickups
5. Jay Cutler
If you’re in a typical one quarterback league, there will be a bunch of QB starters sitting on the waiver wire. Similarly, if you’re drafting the right way, you won’t have spent an early-round pick on one, and could be looking at a late pickup or a decision to play the wire and stream your signal-callers. Jay Cutler is an ideal cheap QB pickup, who has the chance to way out-perform his (lack of) draft position.
While he has problems staying fully healthy in recent years, and is returning after leaving the sport earlier this summer, Cutler still has the tools – and now the surrounding environment to have a strong comeback season. In his limited preseason play, he’s developed a rapport with third-year receiver DeVante Parker (also set for a huge breakout) and has a familiarity with head coach Adam Gase that’ll allow him to feel comfortable in the offense. Gase has got the best from his quarterbacks at every stop, and we might get the best of Cutler at the ripe old age of 34.
Miami is matched up with teams who placed in the bottom half of the league in pass defense last season in their first seven games, including an October stretch against three of the bottom five from 2016 (Saints, Titans and Falcons). Having faith in Jay could pay off.
